New Year's Resolutions Goals

Happy New Year readers!

For New Year's we're watching the Portlandia marathon on IFC. It's pretty funny. Check it out on Netflix if you're interested.

So another year has come and gone. 2012 was a good year for our house.

First and foremost we made it through the whole year without a major car accident! In 2010 AND 2011 we were in car accidents that resulted in total losses vehicle-wise, but thankfully we both walked away with minor bumps and bruises.

The Mister's tattooing is out of control. He's been blessed with some very awesome customers. I can't wait to see what 2013 brings to his business!

Finally, I've met most of the goals on my yearly list. They included learning to use my sewing machine, join a craft swap, and have our family make to switch to eating Paleo.

I am so excited for this next year. I have a feeling there are many good things in store for us!

Here are some of the goals I am looking forward to achieving in 2013:

-Put into practice "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.". Being a lover of sarcasm, I all too often have not so nice things to say to be funny. This year I'd like to try to think before I speak. Maybe it will make me happier.

-Be more mindful of what we spend our money on. Is it a want or a need? I'd like to focus on us appreciating each other and not useless junk cluttering the home.

-Declutter the home.

-Finally learn how to make some amigurumi.

Hope you have an awesome new year. I know we will!

Happy Holidays!

Merry belated Christmas readers!

I hope everyone has enjoyed the holiday season. We hosted Christmas this year and it was crazy! We had seventeen people in our home for dinner. It was loud, chaotic, and I loved every moment of it. The Mister did well in the gift department this year (he's not a good shopper). I received a 39 drawer storage cabinet from Stack-on to store crafty findings, the book, Handmade to Sell, and some figurines to add to my Home Grown collection. My mother gave me a pair of binoculars to feed my private eye fantasy. I am a naturally nosey person and I think I would make a great P.I., but the Mister is worried I would get hurt doing it (I think he watched too much Magnum P.I. as a kid).

Can you believe tomorrow is the last day of 2012? This year just flew by! I have a lot of things planned to share with you for 2013. Here's a preview of January:

- I will be doing a 30 day Paleo reset starting January 1. I will be posting pictures, meal plans, struggles and triumphs hopefully on a daily basis. "Why a reset?" you might ask. Well, like everyone else in the universe, I just indulged a little too much in the holiday goodies. I'm not perfect, but then no one is and it's ok to slip up every so often. :)

-I'm also participating in a few craft swaps on Craftster in January (have I told you I kind of have a swap addiction? More on that later). So I will be sharing my creative processes and whatnot.

What are your plans for the new year?

Introductions

Hello, readers!

Let me tell you a little bit about myself and what this blog is about.

My name is Margary and I just turned 33 last week. I live in Virginia with my awesome husband, our two chihuahuas, and our cat.

This blog is about my adventures in crafting and the Paleo lifestyle. I like to sew, pour resin, and embroider. I'm an active member of Craftster and participate in swaps with other members. I've always loved making things and art was one of my favorite classes in grade school. My husband is a tattoo artist/painter and some of my favorite times with him is when we can work on projects together.

For those of you unfamiliar with Paleo, it is a way of eating that follows what people did before the advent of agriculture. You may have heard it called "eating like a caveman" or something like that. Basically no grains, dairy, refined sugar, and beans or legumes. If you'd like more info on the science behind this check out The Paleo Mom. Her blog is awesome and really helped me out when I first started my research.

I came across Paleo by accident when I was looking for ways to control my PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). PCOS can cause insulin resistance, which in turn causes weight gain and it is very hard to drop the weight.  It also makes it harder to have a baby, but I'm told that if I can somehow lose weight the infertility can be reversed. So, I started reading a lot of blogs, books, and even watched the documentary Fat head on Netflix (eventhough it is not really about the Paleo lifestyle). The science behind it just makes sense to me.

I promise not to try to convince you that Paleo is the only way to be (believe me there is enough of that going around) and I will not look down my nose at you if you eat bread or drink a glass of milk. My husband and I have an agreement that he eats what I make at home, but all bets are off when he's in public. And I am far from perfect. I can and I will slip up from time to time.

I will end this first post by saying thank you for reading and I hope you come back for post #2!
