Hello, readers!
I'm sorry I haven't written in a week. I have no real good excuses except that things have been extremely stressful for me the last few weeks. Between the issues with my job, the issues with my husband's job, and starting the looking for a new place to live search I'm surprised I haven't been carted off to the looney bin!
I didn't want to write a bunch of "Oh, woe is me!" posts. I didn't want to do that to you. Still friends? Awesome!
I had been doing really well with my Paleo reset that started on New Year's. I was eating eggs and bacon everyday and taco salads and beef roasts. The swelling in my body had gone down to almost normal proportions and I had already lost 10lbs. Things were going great. Then I stress ate. And it was bad. I'm still trying to get back on track.
I have not been officially diagnosed as gluten intolerant, but I do know that the edema and painful joints go away everytime I quit grain. EVERYTIME. And everytime I eat grain it totally flairs up. So, no more grains for me ever. Not even a little bit. I never knew how bad off I was until I realized what I could do when I wasn't swollen. I could get off of the floor without have to grab something to steady me. I could do a high kick like a Rockette. I felt very fluid-like and wanted to move. I was sleeping better.
Then I hit that stress wall. I need to find a way to not let it get to me like that. I need a replacement for the stress eating.
What do you do to prevent you from a bad habit?

Surprise Date Night!
Hello, readers!
Last night the Mister and I had a real treat! We got to go on a date. This is a rare thing for us as my husband is ALWAYS working. Seriously, like 60 hours a week plus an hour travel time everyday. So quality time is very precious to us.
First we went to dinner at a local steakhouse. We had an awesome conversation about our plans for the next few months like moving, me changing jobs, and things we'd like to work on (ie decluttering the house and buying a second car). It was an awesome meal and time spent with the Mister.
After dinner we went to one of my favorite stores, Trader Joe's! I needed to stock up on an assortment of nuts, dried fruit, and other things to snack on. I highly suggest any of their trek mixes. I truly love this store. It's so bright and colorful and the staff are always friendly and helpful!
Finally my husband took me somewhere really special- WHOLE FOODS! Whole Foods came to the Hampton Roads area this past October and I just have not had a chance to check it out. It is GORGEOUS! Seriously guys, I want to live there. From their bulk spice setup to their freshly made nut butters to their produce displays. Everything is beautiful! And best of all? They have a real deal butcher counter! None of our local grocery stores have this. I have always dreamed of going to a butcher counter. I know I'm weird. So we explored this wonderful store and the Mister picked up some salsa he'd been looking for and I picked up some arrowroot starch so I can finally try this nut-free sesame hamburger bun recipe by The Paleo Mom.
I really enjoyed this special night and it became the first entry in our 2013 memory jar!

Some of the "in between"
Good morning, readers!
Not really, but I wanted to greet you all in an upbeat manner. I really just want to yell a big "F*ck you!" to the planet. Well, maybe not the whole planet, just where my job is.
I've worked for the same restaurant for almost 11 years. It's a place where the employees have been treated like family, the scheduling was uber flexible, and the benefits were unheard of for the service industry. There's a reason I've been there so long.
On New Year's Day our beloved owner retired. He had sold his part of the business to one of our own chefs so we figured everything would stay the same. NOPE! On Wednesday night a long time coworker of mine (he was there 8 years) was let go. No reason given other than, "You're services are no longer required.". Another coworker has been promoted to management that has no business being a manager. When I asked her if we should be worried about our jobs she said, "I would be.".
It really sucks when you find out your loyalty doesn't mean shit.
This is frustrating and it makes me want to go look for a job right now. So, I'm up at 6:50am writing this to you because I haven't been able to sleep all night. I am stressing too much over this and can't stop.
Maybe I can get a job at a craft/fabric store. Wouldn't that be nice?
On a happier note, my first Craftster swap of the year is the Classic TV Swap. My partner is perfect for me and I've already started working on two pieces for her. I will post pics as I finish them!
Keep Calm and Embroider Something!

New Year's Resolutions Goals
Happy New Year readers!
For New Year's we're watching the Portlandia marathon on IFC. It's pretty funny. Check it out on Netflix if you're interested.
So another year has come and gone. 2012 was a good year for our house.
First and foremost we made it through the whole year without a major car accident! In 2010 AND 2011 we were in car accidents that resulted in total losses vehicle-wise, but thankfully we both walked away with minor bumps and bruises.
The Mister's tattooing is out of control. He's been blessed with some very awesome customers. I can't wait to see what 2013 brings to his business!
Finally, I've met most of the goals on my yearly list. They included learning to use my sewing machine, join a craft swap, and have our family make to switch to eating Paleo.
I am so excited for this next year. I have a feeling there are many good things in store for us!
Here are some of the goals I am looking forward to achieving in 2013:
-Put into practice "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.". Being a lover of sarcasm, I all too often have not so nice things to say to be funny. This year I'd like to try to think before I speak. Maybe it will make me happier.
-Be more mindful of what we spend our money on. Is it a want or a need? I'd like to focus on us appreciating each other and not useless junk cluttering the home.
-Declutter the home.
-Finally learn how to make some amigurumi.
Hope you have an awesome new year. I know we will!

Happy Holidays!
Merry belated Christmas readers!
I hope everyone has enjoyed the holiday season. We hosted Christmas this year and it was crazy! We had seventeen people in our home for dinner. It was loud, chaotic, and I loved every moment of it. The Mister did well in the gift department this year (he's not a good shopper). I received a 39 drawer storage cabinet from Stack-on to store crafty findings, the book, Handmade to Sell, and some figurines to add to my Home Grown collection. My mother gave me a pair of binoculars to feed my private eye fantasy. I am a naturally nosey person and I think I would make a great P.I., but the Mister is worried I would get hurt doing it (I think he watched too much Magnum P.I. as a kid).
Can you believe tomorrow is the last day of 2012? This year just flew by! I have a lot of things planned to share with you for 2013. Here's a preview of January:
- I will be doing a 30 day Paleo reset starting January 1. I will be posting pictures, meal plans, struggles and triumphs hopefully on a daily basis. "Why a reset?" you might ask. Well, like everyone else in the universe, I just indulged a little too much in the holiday goodies. I'm not perfect, but then no one is and it's ok to slip up every so often. :)
-I'm also participating in a few craft swaps on Craftster in January (have I told you I kind of have a swap addiction? More on that later). So I will be sharing my creative processes and whatnot.

Introductions
Hello, readers!
Let me tell you a little bit about myself and what this blog is about.
My name is Margary and I just turned 33 last week. I live in Virginia with my awesome husband, our two chihuahuas, and our cat.
This blog is about my adventures in crafting and the Paleo lifestyle. I like to sew, pour resin, and embroider. I'm an active member of Craftster and participate in swaps with other members. I've always loved making things and art was one of my favorite classes in grade school. My husband is a tattoo artist/painter and some of my favorite times with him is when we can work on projects together.
For those of you unfamiliar with Paleo, it is a way of eating that follows what people did before the advent of agriculture. You may have heard it called "eating like a caveman" or something like that. Basically no grains, dairy, refined sugar, and beans or legumes. If you'd like more info on the science behind this check out The Paleo Mom. Her blog is awesome and really helped me out when I first started my research.
I came across Paleo by accident when I was looking for ways to control my PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). PCOS can cause insulin resistance, which in turn causes weight gain and it is very hard to drop the weight. It also makes it harder to have a baby, but I'm told that if I can somehow lose weight the infertility can be reversed. So, I started reading a lot of blogs, books, and even watched the documentary Fat head on Netflix (eventhough it is not really about the Paleo lifestyle). The science behind it just makes sense to me.
I promise not to try to convince you that Paleo is the only way to be (believe me there is enough of that going around) and I will not look down my nose at you if you eat bread or drink a glass of milk. My husband and I have an agreement that he eats what I make at home, but all bets are off when he's in public. And I am far from perfect. I can and I will slip up from time to time.
I will end this first post by saying thank you for reading and I hope you come back for post #2!
